This is Cody posting. Shelby came home and crashed for the night, and since today marks a significant day for us, I decided to take over and make sure a love post went up for Day 7:
Two years ago today, I made the best decision of my life. I asked my best friend Shelby to marry me.
Today, I feel very humbled.
I feel humbled to call her my wife and best friend.
I feel humbled I get to see her each and every day.
As I have been thinking about what the word love means for me, I have thought of her, and I have thought of this quote (which has been one of my favorites since I met Shelby):
“True friendship helps give meaning to life. It is an anchor for the soul. Based on the pure love of Christ, it is security and trust between two individuals and is stronger than the cords of death because it transcends this mortal existence.”
Shelby is that kind of friend for me. And I hope each day that I can become that kind of friend for her more and more.
This last Saturday we sat in Shelby’s old room at her parents house and I sat and listened as she read through entries from her mission journals. I sat humbled again. I was in awe at the person that I get to be with every single day. I just couldn’t fathom how I deserved that.
Shelby and who she is defines the word love.
She loves everyone she meets. She is kind and respectful. She is forgiving and strong. She has the greatest sense of humor and such a gift with words. She is adventurous and grateful. She is smart and thoughtful. She is bold and gentle. She has a strong ability to serve. She has her two feet solidly on the ground and can accomplish anything she sets her mind to. She is so many other beautiful things.
My life is better because of the kind of friend that Shelby is. I hope that I can be the same friend to her each and every day. I hope that she can know how loved she truly is. By so many people.
And for anyone that is reading this that needs to feel loved, I hope you know that she loves you. She embodies the quote I shared above because she is a true friend and that helps to bring meaning to life. She knows how to love and to listen with the pure love of Christ. She can be trusted, and her friendship and trust are something that you can hold onto. I have that kind of friend in her, and I have that kind of friend in Christ. I am grateful and in awe of both relationships.
